I have a huge post coming up for you all. It involves a wedding.

I'm headed back to the O.C. tomorrow night.

Does anyone else think that all this hurricane watching stuff is stupid? News shows devote too much time to stuff like this.

It's getting late, so I'm going to sleep.

  • Devoting too much time?

Hurricane Katrina is probably the worst natural disaster ever to occur in North America. Damages are gonna approach $100 billion US. There are millions of people who are now homeless and jobless. Hundreds, maybe thousands might be dead. Biloxi's been flattened. New Orleans has practically turned into Atlantis, and will never be the same.

The amount of coverage isn't "stupid" and too much time is not being devoted -- this is a catastrophic event. Perhaps you didn't grasp its enormity.

  • You're correct in saying that I was being really glib about the situation.

But even you can admit that showing news anchors being whipped around by a storm on every news station is pretty ridiculous. I've reached my saturation point on info-tainment, thank you very much. There are better ways to report news stories: ways which don't involve gimmicky anchors and the like. In my opinion, news coverage of incidents such as these reaches a point where it is no longer informative, and almost seems to be taking advantage of the terrible situations being reported.
